Our Foundation, composed of an interdisciplinary team of researchers from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Peru, has received provisional accreditation as an observer organisation to the UNFCCC and plans to participate in COP30. This represents an important step towards obtaining permanent observer status, thereby strengthening our capacity to contribute significantly to international climate governance from the Global South.

Since its creation, our Foundation has promoted initiatives that integrate climate justice and public health, prioritising the inclusion and empowerment of historically underrepresented communities. We ensure that their experiences and knowledge inform evidence-based responses to the climate crisis.

Our work focuses on climate change adaptation from a public health and human rights perspective in South America. We have developed a methodological framework that combines epistemic justice with community participation, reflected in our research and publications. Our current projects are supported by the Oxford–Johns Hopkins Global Infectious Disease Ethics Collaborative (GLIDE) through the Wellcome Humanities and Social Science Award. At the regional level, we collaborate with women's grassroots organisations, linking science and policy through our University Programme in 'Climate Ethics for Local Management and Development' (National University of Córdoba), which involves local officials in building capacities and ethical criteria for climate governance.

Participation in COP30 offers a strategic opportunity to:

  • Disseminate our research to a global audience of policymakers, academics, and civil society representatives, ensuring the inclusion of perspectives from the Global South.
  • Highlight the position of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights on climate change and human rights, as analysed in our recent publication on the advisory opinion requested by Colombia and Chile.
  • Strengthen adaptation and participation processes under the Paris Agreement, in particular through Articles 7 (Adaptation) and 12 (Participation of Parties and Access to Information), by providing evidence and ethical frameworks that integrate science, human rights and local knowledge into policy-making.

We are convinced that our presence at COP30 will strengthen institutional capacities and amplify the voices of the communities we work with, promoting adaptation policies and strategies designed with equity, justice and sociocultural relevance.

To enable our participation, we respectfully request your financial support to cover expenses related to enabling our accredited member to participate in Belém, Brazil. This support will allow us to actively participate in civil society spaces and contribute strategically to COP30.

We have attached the confirmation letter issued by the UNFCCC (Acknowledgement of Participant's Nomination / Visa Support Letter) for Lucas Santiago Frontalini Rekers, who will represent the Foundation at COP30. This document supports our accreditation and participation in the event.

We would sincerely appreciate any support you could provide. Attached is a dossier with detailed information about our research and publications: eticaclimatica.my.canva.site/dossier-eng. We will be happy to provide any additional information you may require.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
